Remington MB 200 Review -
Recommended Basic Beard Trimmer

Remington MB 200 product box

If you're looking for a budget beard trimmer, the Remington MB 200 is definitely recommended.

It's affordable, easy to use, and is really convenient to have on hand.

Whether you need to maintain a full beard, or take one off, this model does a good job.

I personally use it when I've grown my facial hair out for too long.

Long, thick facial hair can be tough to shave with electric shavers or disposable blades. It usually needs to be trimmed down first, and that's where I've found this unit to be very useful.

If you're looking for something basic, you'll want to check out this review.

Trimmer Design and Specs

I was a little surprised at the size of this unit when I first got it.

I guess after checking out some pictures online it seemed smaller. It's not a big deal at all, and it actually fits quite nicely in the hand.

The first thing you will need to do is charge it up, and it's pretty straight forward. On the base there's a hole where the electric cord fits in. You should charge it for about 12 hours before you use it.

The instructions also recommend that you completely drain the battery every 6 months, then fully charge it back up for 24 hours. You can't over-charge it, but leaving it plugged in for more than 2 weeks is not recommended.

The main feature on this beard trimmer is the 9 length settings which are controlled with a dial. Rotating the dial up you have 9 different settings to choose from, each with a specific length.

Adjusting the different trimming lengths

Most people won't be using the high settings unless they have a very long beard. I personally didn't use anything higher than setting 3.

What I liked about the design is that the trimmer locked into the specific length setting and didn't move at all. This gives you confidence that it's not going to jump from setting to setting while you're using it.

To use the lowest setting you simply pull the cap off. This also allows you to clean it thoroughly with the brush. Don't rinse it in water.

Overall it has a good design and should be able to accommodate most people's beard lengths. It does have a little bit of a plastic/cheap feel, but that's understandable considering its low price tag.

My Experience

For the performance part of this review I grew my beard for about 10 days.

I tested all the different settings and tried to style a goatee.

Trimming the neck area
Trimming the cheek area
Trimming the chin and lip area

I found it worked really well at trimming to any of the available lengths. As long as you maintain a consistent amount of pressure you shouldn't have any problems.

It also worked well at completely removing a beard and creating a basic goatee. I did notice that it lacked a bit of power to get a very close finish, but it's important to keep in mind that it's not an electric shaver. So you will have to go over areas with a razor or a disposable blade to get that smooth finish.

I continue to use this when I've let my facial hair grow out too long. If I go 3 or 4 days without shaving, I trim first, and then use an electric shaver. For me it's a must have, and because it's so affordable, I recommend it to most people.

It also works well at trimming body hair.

Final Thoughts and Recommendations

Overall I was happy with the performance of this unit.

It's good at trimming your facial hair to many different lengths, and it's powerful enough to completely remove it as well.

You probably won't be using all the different settings, but I'm sure you'll find one that matches the length you want.

Anyone who grows their facial hair out once and a while and it gets to a length where they can't comfortably shave it off should really consider this product.

It's great to have on hand, and it's really affordable.
