The Philips Norelco 1150x is the most affordable of the SensoTouch shavers, and this is probably why it's one of their best selling models.
An awesome high tech design combined with a reasonable price tag is a good recipe for creating lots of sales, and hopefully lots of happy consumers.
I actually haven't personally tested this particular shaver, so this review is based on consumer feedback, but from what I have gathered consumers seem to like it. However it's important to remember that everyone's opinion is different.
I've always said that Norelco is the leader in overall design and high tech features.
And although the SensoTouch shavers don't have way more features than other brands, the look just makes them seem very advanced.
The main feature and selling point on the SensoTouch shavers is the design of the shaving head. Its design is supposed to help you shave the contours of your face better than other models.
The shaving head pivots 360 degrees and also pivots in-wards. This is what they refer to as GyroFlex 2D Technology. This combined with a shaving head that protrudes from the actual shaver is what allows you to reach the areas around your chin and neck easier than non pivoting models.
Another advanced feature which is becoming more standard in newer shavers is the wet shaving capability. If you want you can use this shaver wet with shaving cream.
One feature that isn't the greatest is the pop up trimmer. It's not built in so you actually need to remove the shaving head and pop on the trimmer. Not really a deal breaker but a little inconvenient.
Does the Design Convert to a Smooth Shave?
In other words: are these high tech features useful?
Let's face it, when the smoke settles the most important factor is shaving performance.
I'd take an ugly and bulky shaver over a super fancy looking model if it definitely shaved better. Shaving performance which is in line with your budget should always be your number one priority.
Fortunately the design of the SensoTouch shavers seems to be working. They continue to rank as some of the best selling models and positive reviews continue to roll in.
The pivoting head does make it easier to shave and the wet dry feature allows you to get more comfort if you need it.
If you've used Norelco shavers in the past, this is definitely an affordable upgrade you will probably be happy with.
Value for Money, this is the Best SensoTouch Model!
In my opinion if you want great value for money you should stick with this model. It's not worth upgrading to the 1160xcc.
The 1160xcc is the other 2D model which comes with the cleaning station. If you want to get the cleaning station you're better off going with the SensoTouch 3D 1250xcc which at a sales price is only $40 more than the 1160xcc.
The main benefit with the 1150x is that you get a high tech shaver for a reasonable price. If you start upgrading you might as well upgrade all the way to the 3D models.
If you want value for money, stick with this one. Overall it's highly recommended if you're looking for a high tech rotary shaver which is well priced.
