Cheap Mens Electric Razor -
Braun M 90 Mobile Shaver Review

Reviewer posing with the Braun M 90

If you're looking for a mens electric razor which isn't expensive, this pocket sized gadget will interest you.

The Braun M 90 Mobile Shaver might not be used for daily shaves or heavy duty tasks, but it can be something you rely upon when you stay overnight somewhere or need something compact and light for short travels.

It is obviously not going to compare to most other products on the market, so let's take a look at the features and see what it can do for you.

Full Review with Video

Enter the Braun M 90:

There's not much that comes inside the box with this one.

What you will get is the actual razor itself, 2 double A batteries, and a set of instructions.

Side Bar...

This review is of the M 90, however you might come across the M 60 or M 30 versions.

The difference is that the M 90 has a pop up trimmer, while the other two versions won't. Also, there may be a different color choice when going with the M 60 or M 30.

Also, keep in mind this only retails for $25!

Cleaning the Razor

For cleaning you can turn it on and rinse the foil under running warm water.

For a thorough clean you can apply some liquid soap and turn it on, then rinse it under water.

When you're done rinsing you can remove the foil and rinse it again separately. When all the cleaning is done let it dry before putting the foil back on.

Removing the foil cap

It also comes with a cleaning brush which is neatly tucked away at the base.

So you can brush away any stubble first before rinsing it, or you can just brush away the stubble without rinsing it. You can brush the blades, but don't brush directly on the foil.

If you clean it everyday with water, or quite a few times a week, you should apply some machine oil to the foil once, or once every two weeks to keep it in good condition.

Design and Specs

There's an obvious reason why this is sometimes referred to as a pocket shaver. Yes, it can basically slip into your back pocket.

I don't know anyone who actually carries these products in their pockets, nevertheless it is extremely portable. As a traveling shaver, it is quite convenient. You can keep it in the car, at the office, or just take it on day trips.

Up close look at the front of the unit

It's powered by 2 double A batteries which many people have stated last quite long. You should be able to get 60 minutes of shaving time out of them.

On the base there is an open and close switch. By twisting the switch on the base you can open the compartment where the batteries fit in. This model does come with 2 batteries included.

Braun does advise that when you're not using it you should remove the batteries. So if you're only shaving once a week, or a few times a month, you should not store it with the batteries inside.

On the front you will notice a twist cap.

Twisting open the protective and locking feature

This acts as a lock so you can't turn it on by accident, and it also protects the foil. Once you twist it down it clicks into place and you can switch it on.

My Shaving Experience

For the shaving experience I had about two days worth of stubble and unfortunately the process didn't go very well for ME.

Coming into this I wasn't really expecting much because I know I have quite a thick beard.

I tested this model with just one day's worth of stubble and it performed a bit better, but I still had issues with my neck area.

It did perform quite well on my cheek and upper lip, but it had a tough time shaving down my chin and neck area.

Bottom line, if you have thick facial hair like mine you will not enjoy this product.

But... if you have thin or very fine facial hair it should be fine.

As I said on my cheek and upper lip it did quite well. So for anyone with thin facial hair that doesn't grow in very fast or thick, the Braun M 90 should be quite convenient.

Many people who have submitted positive reviews stated that their beards aren't very thick.

Final Thoughts and Recommendations

This clearly had a tough time shaving down my facial hair.

But keep in mind I do have a pretty thick beard, and I let it grow in for two days in the video demonstration.

I've tested it out with one day's worth of growth and it did do better, but at the end of the day I personally wouldn't use this on a regular basis.

If you have thick facial hair and you need to shave everyday, I would not recommend this particular product.

On the other hand, if you have thin facial hair and you maybe only shave once or twice a week it could be a good match for you. It performed well on my cheeks and upper lip, so with a light beard it should be fine.

At the end of the day, if you have thick facial hair avoid this one, but if you have thin facial hair which doesn't grow in too often and you're just looking for something cheap and portable to buzz down your beard once or twice a week, this is a bargain at $25.
