Difference between Braun Series 7 - 790, 760, and 720 shavers

I saw your reviews on YouTube and since I want to buy a shaver, your reviews were very useful.

I saw your review of the Braun series 7 - 790cc but it is a bit expensive for me, and I found the Braun series 7 - 720.

Can you tell me the main differences between the Braun series 7 - 790, 760 and 720?

Thanks for your attention.

Answer:

The truth is, there isn't a big difference between the Series 7 - 790, 760 and 720 models.

The difference between the 790 and 760 is just that the 790 has a quick clean feature, and the display lights are a bit different. The 790 is also black and silver, instead of white and silver like the 760. (I've actually seen the 760 come in all black as well.)

The 720 is basically the same shaver, just without the cleaning base. So the actual shaving performance should be the same, you just won't get a cleaning base.

Side Bar...

Braun doesn't advertise these shavers as "wet shavers", but they do say you can clean them easily with running water. One thing you might want to consider getting if you go with the 720 is some machine oil and apply it maybe once every 1 or 2 weeks. This will help keep the blades lubricated. Braun sells their own machine oil, or you can use a different type like sewing machine oil. Braun says that if you clean it with water often (which you will have to do with the 720), then applying machine oil can help the blades last longer.

Many people have asked if you can use the Series 7 models wet with shaving cream. I advise people not to use them wet with shaving cream because first of all they shave really well dry, and secondly I haven't seen Braun advertise them as wet shavers. So they can be cleaned with water, but I personally wouldn't use them wet. That being said, users have told me that they use the Series 7 models wet with shaving cream so I don't think there's a right or wrong here.

End Side Bar...

So the shaving performance of the 790, 760, and 720 should be the same... so why recommend the 790 you ask?

The reason I reviewed and recommend the Braun Series 7 - 790 cc over the other models is because it has the most features, and I noticed that many online retailers are not selling it for that much more money.

I think for most people the price difference doesn't really justify going with the earlier models. Through this website you can find a sales price on the Braun Series 7 - 790cc which is only around 20 US dollars more than the 720. In this case I personally feel it's worth getting the newer model.

Obviously if price is a major factor and you shop around and stumble across a big price shavings on the older models like the 720, and you don't think you want the cleaning station then perhaps it's a better model for you.

Personally, I believe the price differences don't justify going with the older models, and therefore believe the 790 model is the best choice.

Prices tend to fluctuate a bit, especially around the holidays, however there usually isn't more than a $20 difference between these models.

720s - will it work with a Clean and Charge unit?
by: Richie

As you said the 720s is nearly identical except for the simpler LED display and that it doesn't come with a Clean and Charge unit.

I've bought a 720s (as I wanted to save some $$$) and am now wondering if I should invest in a clean and charge unit/base station? But I'd like to know if it would even work if I dropped my 720s in there?

Not 100% Sure
by: Tyler

I would think that it would work in the Series 7 Clean and Renew Station, however I don't have the 720 model and thus haven't actually tried this.

I don't think it would be a problem, but I couldn't say 100%. If it hasn't been too long you may try to return the model and upgrade.

Refill Cartridges
by: Anonymous

You mentioned the cartridges go for 5$ a piece, but I am having difficulty finding them for such price. The cheapest I found go for 45$ for 3 which is twice as much as you mentioned. Where can I find the cartridges for the price you speak of?

Depends on your location
by: Tyler

Unfortunately this sometimes depends on where you're ordering from. If you check Amazon.com, you can find a great price on the cleaning cartridges.

Sometimes you can't order from this site because of your location. In Canada, sometimes you can find similar prices on ebay. If you live in Europe, I've seen similar prices on Amazon.co.uk.

If you can't get these sites to ship to your location, you might have to pay more.

I will be making a video on how to make your own cleaning solution so keep in eye out on the YouTube channel for that.
